Tax Credit Available for Qualifying Energy Efficient Home Improvements:
Energy Efficient New Homes: The bill extends through 2011 the Section 45L tax credit of up to $ 2000.00 for builders of residential homes that are more energy efficient than comparable homes.
Energy Efficient Existing Homes: The bill helps homeowners lower their energy bills by extending through 2011 the Section 25c tax credit for energy efficient retrofits to existing homes. This credit returned to its pre-ARRA levels, allowing taxpayers to claim up to 10% of the cost (max $500.00) for improvements that make their homes more energy efficient such as installing new Energy Star rated windows and doors. (Installation charges do not apply)
Anyone who may have taken advantage of the 2006-2010 programs must be aware that there is a $ 500.00 cap that cannot be exceeded. For instance, if a homeowner claimed $500 total from 2006 through 2010, they cannot apply for any of these rebates that will exceed the cap. *Note: Not all products and taxpayers may qualify – please contact a tax professional to confirm eligibility. LG&E/KU Offering $25.00 Energy Audits:
Residential energy audits are now available to LG&E/KU customers at the significantly reduced rate of $25.00. This is a new program and interested consumers should consult with LG&E/KU for specific details. The energy audit will help consumers identify areas where energy loss is occurring and will recommend actions that can be taken to stop the energy loss. Actions may be as simple as adding caulk/weather stripping or upgrading insulation, and can be more involved including steps such as replacement of windows/doors or upgrades to the heating/air conditioning system. Adams Construction Services, Inc. is offering a $25.00 credit to LG&E/KU customers who become clients or Adams Construction and present the audit at the time that the recommended work is completed.
