| Basement Finish in Southern Indiana | |
This "Featured Project" highlights the finishing of a 2200 square foot basement. The project included adding an office, a bedroom which featured an egress escape window well, two full baths one of which featured a custom steam shower with tile bench seats, a bar/ entertainment area, a family room with fireplace, and a work out area. |
|
The first big part of this project was adding the egress window well. This involves excavating down the foundation/ basement wall down to the footer. We then had to connect a drain line to the existing perimeter drain to prevent any future water problems. We then had to cut an opening through the concrete wall, add a steel header, and frame in the opening for a sliding window. A fiberglass window well was then lowered into place. The purpose of this egress well is to provide a direct escape from a bedroom to the exterior of the home in case of an emergency. Building codes require this for safety. |

Next, we move to the Family room. This area features more custom cabinets and bookshelves that accent the stone veneer gas fireplace and mantle. The room was also wired for a surround sound theater system with the flat screen TV mounted above the fire place, a great place for the entire family to relax and watch a movie. |

Another feature of the project is the workout room. At one end of the room we installed plywood on the walls to allow for a hand ball court. At the opposite end of the workout area we installed mirrors along one of the walls. This area was also wired to the entertainment system with a flat screen TV so the client can watch their favorite show while they are working out. |
The last area is the bathroom. This is a very customized design. The bathroom features an 8'x6' tiled Steam Shower. The shower includes a two tiered bench seat on one side and a single tier on another side. Because this is a steam shower, some subtle changes had to be made. One such change is the "sloped" ceiling. This was added to allow the steam that condensates on the ceiling to be able to run off to the wall and down to the drain. Details like that and other things like the Green Leaf sink and Chrome Bamboo faucet really set this bathroom above your average bathroom project.
